Bicester Motion – An exemplar of advocacy for the Armed Forces
Bicester Motion formalises commitment to the Armed Forces Community by signing the Armed Forces Covenant
Alongside Bicester Motion, 17 resident specialist companies each signed their own, bespoke, Covenant commitments
Many companies are already employing veterans and family members, as well as supporting Armed Forces
On the 25th of August, Bicester Motion alongside 17 specialist companies residing at Bicester Heritage formally pledged their commitment to the military community by signing the Armed Forces Covenant in a group signing ceremony.
Working closely with Mission Motorsport, The Forces’ Motorsport Charity who deliver Mission Automotive, an initiative of the Society of Motoring Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) in partnership with The Royal Foundation, Bicester Motion has become an incubator of good practice and is a leading advocate for the Military community.
Bicester Motion and Bicester Heritage currently employ veterans and encourage other companies within the industry to follow suit. Dan Geoghegan, CEO of Bicester Motion said: “Encouraging access to the unique skillsets and talent from Armed Forces personnel will surely allow new opportunities for development and exchange at Bicester Motion.”
As well as Bicester Motion, several residents of the ex-military site including Historit and The Little Car Company currently employ ex-service personnel.
Lt Col AJ Atherton, Bicester Garrison Commander co-signing on behalf of the Ministry of Defence said, “Being here today completing not one but 18 companies is a real pleasure. The Military has a long history within the town of Bicester and to know companies have committed to support our troops is wonderful.”
Air Commodore David Tait who also attended the signing event said, “To see so many companies signing the Armed Forces Covenant is absolutely wonderful and testament to the fantastic hub that has been created here. To me, and many others in our Armed Forces, the Covenant doesn’t just show you’re willing to support the Armed Forces community – it also makes us feel valued and for that I am extremely thankful.”
CEO and Founder of Mission Motorsport, James Cameron added, “The signing of the Armed Forces Covenant by 18 different companies is to be celebrated. Bicester Motion is a powerful advocate. Their commitment to the Military community and encouragement has meant others have followed in its footsteps, creating employment opportunities for those leaving or have left the Armed Forces. We are incredibly proud to be working with all the companies and are one step closer to making Britain the best place to be a veteran.”
